red scarf project: the sequel

Instead of wishing I'd been there to see and photograph all the Red Scarfs sent to the Orphan Foundation for Valentine's Day care packages, I headed south.
Because I realized , why not, its do-able, and I'm a febavenge_2 .

This is Tina, who coordinates scholarships for the Orphan Foundation, with two of the college students who receive care packages from the Orphan Foundation. The young woman on the left graduated recently. She said getting the packages while she was in school really meant something to her, she loved them. Are you smiling yet? I grinned all day long.

I'm here to tell you: Norma was right. As she predicted in a post I can't find now, there was plotzing at the sight of all the fuzzy scarlet splendor.

Also oohing, and aaahing, some out right coveting, petting, admiration and above all, appreciation for the knitters. Much of which happened in fast forward, as close to 2000 care package boxes were packed by an army of volunteers. That's a lot, and I mean towering piles of fed ex boxes lot, of care packages.

There was no way to know which were from knitbloggers but a few times I recognized a scarf I'd seen posted, it was like a celebrity sighting.

You 'd like these folks. If you knit a Red Scarf, be glad. There's a former foster kid who's in college somewhere in this country today, enjoying it.

Thank you so much for this post! I see my scarf and I'm so pleased. And so many others and they are gorgeous! Like Norma, I'm crying.

Mahalo from the bottom of my heart! Your photos are wonderful. As I knit my scarf, it felt very personal--just between me and the recipient. The pictures of so many other scarves remind me of the pleasures of being part of a collective effort.

Thanks so much for sharing these with us. Plotzing all around on Valentine's Day -- what could be better?

Thank you so much for posting this! I can see my scarf in there, and I'm all misty-eyed ... you send these things off sort of into the void sometimes, you know? It's wonderful to see the scarves all grouped together, and all those great folks working together to get the scarves out to the kids ... what a fantastic Valentine's Day present for everyone involved.

Wow!!! I totally wanted to go and help pack it all up but work interfered. How inconvenient! I am so glad that you went though. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy seeing all of those scarves.

Thanks for the pictures!

Fantastic! I'm actually jealous that I didn't have time to participate this year. I know about it now, though, and will start collecting red yarns throughout the year, for next year's scarves. I love that braided cable one, I need to figure out that pattern.
(Norma, you're so cute.)

Beeyooteeful! Thanks so much for showing all that knitterly love in one place. Lovely photography!

Norma, actually mine didn't make it in there, but great minds clearly do think alike, there were a few that are quite similar to the one I made. I hope someone's day is a little brighter knowing we knitters care.

Gale,
Thank you so much for taking these great photos and sharing them with us. I was so glad to happen upon Norma’s blog at the beginning of the year and then to discover this great project. How awesome is all of that! Like one of your commenters here said, it felt like you were having a connection to someone you may never meet as you knit the scarf -- the young person will feel loved and cared for and wrapped in warmth and that’s always a beautiful thing.

Gale, have you had a camera surgically attached to your hand yet? I guess that it would interfere with the knitting, but holy cripe, I LOVE your photographs. Whatta gal, going in and having fun and documenting this wonderfulness.

Happy Valentine's Day, you wild February Avenger, you!

I didn't find out about this until it was too late to knit some, but I'm crying now just thinking of all the plotzing over the scarves. What a great thing! Thank you so much for photographing them.
