Here's lunch time in the kitchen at etsy headquarters in Brooklyn. I posted a report of my behind-the-scenes tour over at Two Shear Spirits, my much neglected blog with Joan Tapper. Go, look, read. It was peeking behind the curtain in Oz. Except without that weird wizard guy or multicolored horses. But with Toto-like dogs.

Happy Passover to those observing. I made kickass matza balls last night. I was so pleased with this particular batch I wanted to photograph them in their partially cooked glory. But, is there any cuisine less photogenic than Ashkenzaic Jewish? I'd have had to suspend operations and style them beyond reality. So, instead, here's a link about the White House seder. Growing up, this is a scene that we'd maybe imagine in a comedy sketch, in that ironic stretching the humor way. An African American president leading a seder? In the White House? Love it!
I'm making macaroons tomorrow. Maybe they'll be prettier.
Very cool - and now I want soup...
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome that President Obama is having a seder at the White House! Who'd have thunk?
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Gale, about beige Ashkenazy food! I photographed our my Seder dinner plate and it was a very boring brown, beige with a bit of green...not springlike at all! Those Sephardics have it ALL over us in the food department! Happy Pesach! Matzah Brickle for dessert!
ReplyDeleteAnd doesn't he or Michelle have a converted cousin who is a Rabbi? Definitely the stuff of 70's comedy. Happy Pesach.
ReplyDeleteI made matzo ball soup yesterday , not jewish or anything it has been cold and damp and it just sounded good (and super low calorie) and it was yummy!
ReplyDeleteMatzoh balls are very photogenic, true, but I bet you could have put a nice garnish on them. I bet you felt full and happy when you ate it. Does etsy look like the ideal place to work or what?!
ReplyDeleteJust back from a long jog and those matzoh balls sound fabulous.
ReplyDeleteCorn chowder isn't very photogenic, either. I tried...
