Today, Feb 14th, there are about 2500 college students who used to be foster kids, looking something like this, thanks to you, Red Scarf knitters.
A few of this year's donations. A random sampling. Quality? Oh yeah. We got quality. Look closer:
Happy Valentines Day!
Happy Valentines Day!
ps While scarves can be sent for 2010 care packages after September1st, you can donate anytime to the Red Scarf Fund for Foster Youth to help former foster kids in college with small expenses, like broken glasses, and extra course supplies that run out , and emergency needs. (an aside- now that I have a son in college, I realize just how much these small emergency needs crop up. Need a tie for an interview! Fee for a field trip that is sort of required! Lost a book! ) There's a link on Norma's blog, click from her sidebar- you know she's the one who started this fund, with the Orphan Foundation of America.
Tears and hugs and huge smiles from me! Happy Valentine's Day!!! OMG will you LOOK at those gorgeous scarves???
ReplyDeleteWonderful, just WONDERFUL! *sniff*
Hooray! What a great project. Thanks for the prompt to donate my (non-red) scarf! I am glad to have been a part of the project. I'll have to keep my eye out for something red to contribute for next year.
ReplyDeleteHey Trinity, good to hear from you. The non-red scarves are appreciated too. Not to worry!
ReplyDeleteLeah is psyched to see her basketweave scarf ( http://livnletlrn.blogspot.com/2009/12/walking-in-winter-wonderland.html ) in the center of the table in the 2nd picture! We totally forgot that this is the time of yr when the scarves are distributed, so thanks for the reminder and happy V day!

Look at all that ravishing red! To say nothing of those beautiful young people so splendidly scarfed. It makes me want to start working on next year's scarves, which I'm sure is the intention... and I'll get right on it as soon as I clear a few UFOs off my plate.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful people (donors and donees) and beautiful scarves. This year I hope to have fewer deadline knitting projects and get one or more made for the cause.
ReplyDeleteExcellent. The scarves were all beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAs an adoptive mother, I love this project! Wonder when that last photo was taken? That looks just like my scarf on the young lady in the foreground.
ReplyDeleteWow! all those red scarfs look glorious! so many different textures and red hues, real eye candy!
