LAMAR a reversible cabled chunky scarf

Yarn: Cascade 109 Tweed, a chunky yarn, 109 yards per skein, 3 skeins in walnut
Needles: size US 13
The backstory: when bro-in-law said he'd like a scarf I was ready to jump on one of those striped scarves. Except he added, "it has to be reeeaally soft so I can have it right on my neck."
Now, I can call the Noro Silk Garden soft enough when blocked for me, the knitter, but in the real non-knitting world? Not so much on the bare neck.
So, what to knit? I have Opinions on scarves. They should look great from both sides, and no ribbing allowed on the ends if they're cabled. And I wanted cables but not with squared off long sides. I felt like knitting chunky. So I winged it. (wang it?) . Manly enough for the guys, don't you think? Still a litle artsy, looks good on women too. That's sister Lulu lending her neck for the cause. Again.
I usually get bored on the last quarter scarf, but not this time. It was that quick a knit. And I found myself loving the yarn/cable stitch combo I'd chosen. Usually I recoil from mushroomy-beigey tones, yet I have to say Kathy's right. Mushroom is the New Black.

Thank you for sharing! This scarf is great -- interesting, but good for the guys. I too really think a scarf should look nice on both sides. Whose scarf actually lays nice and flat like they do in the pics -- if it's cold enough to need a scarf, it's probably going to blow around some.

Great scarf - I'm with you on the reversible aspect. Both sides don't have to be identical, but should be presentable.

I am officially one skein into this lovely, luscious, wonderful pattern! I was getting ready to take a walk to the LYS to succumb to the silk garden stripey bastard when kablammo, I saw this! And I have 3 skeins of the Cascade 109 in my stash! I am thinking I'll do 1.5 skeins, add two buttons and use the cable crossover points for buttonholes, make a spiffy little neck wrap! Thanks! It's a GREAT pattern, easy to memorize, with such a lovely, lovely result!

Hello Unknown (comment above)- I teste dthe link and it is working fine. Check to see if you have a pop-up blocker on your computer that might be stopping it from opening up. Also, some folks have trouble accessing the pattern from their work computers, because their employers have installed blockers.
If the issues above don't solve the problem, contact me directly (email or ravelry) with your email and I'll send it to you.
Looks wonderful! I always test the yarn on my face. I don't know how many funny looks I get in the store.
Trying to knit this pattern, not sure if something is missing, but it seems like the wool is at the wrong end. For example when you start row 5, you pick up 6 stitches well your wool is at the right end of needle, and you are supposed to then k1p1 3 times....

Love this! I found you on Pinterest tonight. This looks fantastic. I have the yarn and needles (new knitter so having both on hand doesn't happen often!) and am starting this tonight.
Thanks for all the interest! The pattern does not have errors, but if you are new to cables it might feel a little funny at first, since there are no edge/border stitches. bear with it, and you'll see the pattern emerge.
If you are having trouble download, try checking to see if you have a pop=up blocker, or if you are at work, your company may have downloads blocked.
The versions in languages other than English are not anything I can control (or read!) so I apologize but i can't help if the version you are looking for disappears.

Hi Paula,
After you complete row 12, you go back to row 1 and follow the same 12 rows again, as many times as you wish to make the length of the scarf. The Lamar pattern is a 12 row repeat.

I have a question about the yarn: Is it Cascade TIVOLI, which is a bulky yarn that comes in 109-yd skeins? I am so curious because I actually have a couple of balls of it, but have always wondered if it would actually be soft enough for a scarf! Does it soften up with washing/blocking?
